Singh is King

Another Akhay Kumar genre of a film. Wasn't expecting this one to be a full on comedy, it seemed from the promos to be more of an action movie. But was pleasantly surprised. The comedy scene in bolly movies has definitely improved these days. Akshay was at his usual self and was supported well by Om puri. The costumes in the movie were pretty good I liked Akshay's printed kurtas that he wore in the village scenes and also his heavily embroidered ones when he played don in Australia. Katrina's role was limited to wearing pretty clothes and doing some dance numbers. Neha Dhupia had more of a character role than her.

Surprising the songs by Pritam did not do the trick this time, none of them were good. If you want to watch a light hearted comedy this ones for you. Good performances , a strong star cast and beautiful locations spanning Egypt and Australia. Overall I would give it 3 stars.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

With all the hype around Aamir's production and his nephew it lived up to quite of it. The movie has some excellent treatment of typical hindi movie scenes. My favorite is definitely when Rotlu asks for "Coke on the rocks". Also the scene on how Imran avoids the college squabble was different. Between Imran and Genelia, she definitely stole the show for me. Imran still has some growing up to do as an actor but Genelia was pretty confident and at ease in her role. The scenes with Ratna pathak and Naseeruddin shah who played Imran's parents were pretty well done too. On the other hand the ones with Sohail and Arbaaz Khan seemed like a stretch. Overall a college flick should be pretty popular with the younger crowds. I will give it 3 and 1/2 stars.
